Teachers at Alberta Accredited International Schools apply for extension or re-issuance of their interim professional certificate, Permanent Certification, and Temporary Leadership Certificates using the forms below. There is no difference between Alberta based and international teachers for these applications.

However, international teachers must apply directly to the Minister of Education for a Letter of Authority. Do not use the AISCA form below.

Note that AISCA charges a fee for evaluating teachers at AAIS for their Permanent Certification. There is important information in the Teacher Certification Handbook.

APPLICANT: If you hold an Alberta Interim Professional Certificate, and wish to have it extended, you must complete this application form in full. Please return it to the recommending officer at the AISCA-DSA Program (information noted below) before the end of the current school year. The recommending officer will then forward the application to Alberta Education and Childcare’s Teacher Certification Branch. Do not submit an application more than 180 days from the date of expiry. Information about Letters of Authority

We would like to inform you of an important change to Alberta's teacher certification process. The Government of Alberta has replaced the Letter of Authority (LOA) with a Conditional Teacher Certificate (CTC). Internationally educated teachers, who do not yet qualify for an Interim Professional Certificate, should now apply directly for a Conditional Teacher Certificate through TWINS. Applications for initial teacher certification are submitted through the Teacher Workforce Information System (TWINS). Applicants must create a TWINS account and submit the required transcripts and supporting documentation as part of their application. Applicants who have applied and received a letter of assessment from Alberta Education and Childcare within the past three years can contact the Office of the Registrar at [email protected] and request that their file be reassessed to determine their eligibility to hold a Conditional Teacher Certificate. If you currently have an outstanding application for a Letter of Authority on file, you may request that Teacher Certification Branch assess your existing credentials for a Conditional Teacher Certificate by contacting [email protected].

Applicants for a CTC must complete pre-certification courses on TWINS related to the Teaching Quality Standard and the Code of Professional Conduct for Teachers and Teacher Leaders. The credentials for international applicants can take up to 120 days to assess, after application is complete.

Please note that AISCA does not process applications or assess credentials for initial certification, including Conditional Teacher Certificates. All applications, credential evaluations, and certification decisions are handled directly by Alberta Education's Teacher and Leadership Certification Branch.

APPLICATION FOR PERMANENT PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION 2026-2027

APPLICANT: If in the course of this school year, you will be completing the equivalent of two full school years of teaching, while holding a valid interim professional certificate, you must apply for an evaluation for permanent certification.

Before proceeding, please find the Verification of Employment Template PDF provided at the beginning of the Teacher Certification Application lists. Submit the template to your current and former employers to verify your teaching time. You will be required to upload the verifications into the application.
