Alberta’s Independent Schools Save Taxpayers $175 Million Every Year

In Alberta, funding is provided for independent schools, in recognition of parental choice and in service of the public interest. However, this funding is only a portion of what public and separate schools receive. Because they are not fully funded, this saves taxpayers money: as much as $175 million per year.

Independent schools make up the remainder through tuition, fundraising, and other sources. Parents of children in independent schools bear the extra cost (including school taxes) because they believe in the benefits independent schools offer their children.
