Occupational Therapist (OT) – Early Intervention Services

Various FTE, Multiple Positions

Currently FCB is looking to have Occupational Therapists join our Early Intervention (EI) team and support children at various partner locations in Calgary and Area. Working with an Early Learning Coordinator (ELC) the OT is responsible for managing a caseload of children with diverse developmental needs.

The primary role of the OT is:

The OT will play a key role in the EI team, working with an ELC the OT will participate in screening and assessment of preschool and kindergarten aged children.  The OT has the responsibility of planning and developing programming that fits the unique needs of each child on their caseload. Providing regular therapy sessions, communicating with families, supporting educational assistants and collaborating with a child’s EI team.

Duties include:

  • Participate in screenings and complete assessments for registered children to complete funding applications
  •  Create Individual Program Plan (IPP) goals and support the implementation of strategies to achieve these goals
  •  Support members of the child’s team to build their capacity to support the needs and programming of the children on your caseload
  • Support families with strategies and recommendations that support the child’s language development
  • Regularly complete therapy notes, monitor goals and complete reports as required & maintain the required standards of ACOT
  • Participate in IPP meetings and work collaboratively with other members of the EI team
  •  Support Educational Assistants and Early Learning Coordinators with training and education around OT strategies

Skills and Abilities:

  •  Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Flexible approach that focuses on the unique needs of the child and programming
  • Strong understanding of Alberta Education requirements
  • Knowledge and skills to work with several forms of early childhood developmental delays

Requirements:

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Member in good standing & registered to practice with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT)
  • Current professional liability insurance
  • Minimum of three years of experience, working with preschool aged children
  • Experience working with children with complex needs and/or with difficult behaviours
    Reliable vehicle and proof of insurance (2 million)
  • A current criminal record check and vulnerable sector check

Hours of Work:

Position is based on a 37.5 hour work week (1.0 FTE). FTE this is dependent on registration, caseloads and candidate availability. This position will be required to travel between sites and have flexible schedule to meet the needs of schools and families. Multiple positions available, including spring starts and August 2024 start dates.
